The Human Dynamic

Staff briefings provided a time to chat with co-workers and elicited many fond memories. While there were many unusual personalities, mine included, there were many kind people. You needed a thick skin as correctional officers were relentless with their teasing, and practical jokes. As we waited patiently for the commencement of a staff briefing, we had the opportunity to stock up with snack food found in the staff canteen. It was a great little money maker that provided the funding for our annual Christmas party.

We always had time for a laugh. Sending a rookie officer up on the tier to check out a cell call in # 213 always got a great belly laugh, given the unit cells were only numbered to #212. It was fun watching them search for the mythical, and elusive cell. At Christmas time we would always manage to find a new, unsuspecting officer and tell him about his free Christmas turkey at Bromley’s supermarket in Sumas Washington. Just present your badge to get your free festive meal. While there was no free lunch, or in this case dinner, these kinds of gags provided endless hours of childlike entertainment.
